Wed 13th Aug – Mullion v Praze an Beeble

1st Team

In our first league game of the season a dominant performance by Mullion gave us a pleasing 6-0 win. The 1st half saw lots of chances go begging but a Billy Jane scuffed shot gave us a 1-0 lead into half time. After the break a rampant Mullion squad scored 5 unanswered goals to see out a comfortable win.

Sat 13th Sept – Mullion v St Agnes

Sat 16th Aug – Mullion v St Day Res.

Mullion were still missing striker Josh Wilson-Hone and experienced defender Chris Wormington along with midfielder Billy Jane but were able to field a stronger squad against a young and much improved St Agnes squad. The game proved to be pretty even with both sides prompting but not creating real open chances. Eventually Dom Hannaford stepped up from a corner and was on hand to put Mullion in the lead only to be pegged back shortly after when a long ball down the middle caught us out and the speedy winger was on hand to get the equalizer. Thankfully Mullion were looking slightly more dangerous over the last 20 mins and a fine strike by Harry Blatch sealed the victory for Mullion with about 10 mins remaining. The 2-1 victory sees us sitting 2nd in the table after the first 6 games.

Next game : Sat 20th Sept – Nanpean v Mullion (Intermediate Cup) 2pm KO

Sat 20th Sept – Nanpean v Mullion (Intermediate Cup)

In terribly wet conditions, which made the playing surface very treacherous, the 2 teams played out a very competitive game between two well matched sides. There were lots of errors due to the conditions but the game went end to end throughout. Nanpean perhaps looked slightly more dangerous on the 1st half with the wind and rain behind them and went 1-0 up through a great strike from the edge of the box after a number of good blocks by the Mullion defense. Mullion equalized through Ryan Tonkin after a good cross into the box and a calm side foot finish. Further chances followed but they went in at 1-1. The 2nd half followed the same pattern but Mullion took the lead with an excellent goal from Jamie Blatch after good build up play from Harry Roberts and Jack Rutterford. Unfortunately a few mins later Nanpean went up the other end and equalized with a far post header after good play from the full back down the right. Extra time followed with both side’s tiring and it took a great 30 yd strike from the Nanpean midfielder to edge Nanpean in to what seemed a winning lead. However with minutes to go, sloppy play at the corner flag by Nanpean defenders allowed Jamie Blatch to cross the ball and there was Ryan Tonkin to prod it past the keeper. 3-3 and nothing much between the sides so it went to penalties. Successful penalties from all 4 Mullion takers Sam Harris, Jamie Blatch, Harry Roberts and Jack Harris and a great save from Bart saw Mullion through to the next round 4-2 on pens.

Next game – Sat 27th Sept – Pendeen v Mullion 2.30pm KO

In very difficult blustery conditions Mullion  ran out comfortable winners 2-0.  Against the difficult wind 2 Harry Roberts goals, after good work by Josh Wilson – Hone gave us. 2-0 lead. However Mullion failed to get to grips with the wind advantage and despite consistent pressure we’re unable to add to their total. However, 2 wins place us top of the league as we look forward to a tough game at Redruth next Saturday.

Next Game – Sat 23rd Aug – Redruth v Mullion KO 2.30pm at Clijah Croft.

Sat 6th Sept – Mullion v Holman Res (Percy Stephens Cup)

After 3 consecutive league defeats Mullion had a tough challenge against a strong Holman team that have started the season well and presently are unbeaten. Ben Matthew’s came in to the side to strengthen the defense but Holman’s bright attacking football was soon causing Mullion problems especially the tricky winger on the left hand side. By half time Holmans were 5-0 up through their incisive attacks and although Mullion had a fair amount of possession they caught quite get on the score sheet. Both sides made changes at half time and a better Mullion performance saw them match Holmans in the 2nd half and no further goals were scored. I’m sure Holmans will go on to have a say in the outcome of this cup and Mullion can now go back and concentrate on improving their league position.

Next game : Sat 20th Sept – Mullion v Carharrack ( Div 3W fixture) 2.30pm KO

Sat 20th Sept – Mullion v Carharrack

After a string of defeats the 2nd team were keen to get back to winning ways. A relatively strong team  with a shuffle of positions to strengthen the defense seemed to pay dividends and a good team performance lead to a fine 7-2 victory and consolidating their mid table position.
