In our first league game of the season a dominant performance by Mullion gave us a pleasing 6-0 win. The 1st half saw lots of chances go begging but a Billy Jane scuffed shot gave us a 1-0 lead into half time. After the break a rampant Mullion squad scored 5 unanswered goals to see out a comfortable win.
The 1st team continued to finish the season strongly. A 2-2 draw against eventual runners up Hayle, was fully deserved with 2 goals from Jamie Blatch. The following week saw us complete a very successful month with a convincing 6-1 win at St Ives, who unfortunately lost their keeper early on with a broken finger. April saw us continue the good form with only a poor performance at Ludgvan, where we went down 2-1, spoiling the record. 3-0 at home to Redruth, 3-2 away at Penryn after a great fight back, 3-2 at home to Wendron and then a final flourish in the last game of the season 5-0 away to Wendron.
Manager Ben Wormington and his assistant Paul Williams can be fairly content with the season finishing a very respectable 5th out of 14 in the league with lots of positives and hopefully a stable squad looking forward to next season.
The 2nd team finished the season with some inconsistent results. A strong Culdrose side came to Clifden Parc and competed well gaining a 1-0 win under lights as Mullion struggled to find their creative edge. We then went over to local rivals St Keverne and battled out a 1-1 draw although probably having the better chances. Another draw against Penryn Res 0-0 again saw us struggle to threaten the goal keeper enough. We then played league leaders Dropship Res and although losing 4-1 in the end the result flattered the opposition as we certainly gave as good as we got for over an hour. Unfortunately Culdrose we’re not able to field a team for the return fixture, very disappointing for a military base. Our final game was at Carharrack who were bottom of the league. The condition of the pitch was horrendous and contributed to an error strewn game with Mullion coming out on top 7-4 with Theo Humby scoring 2, Charlie Bennett got 2 and singles from Harry Phillips, Jowan Penaluna, and Jamie Blatch seeing out the season.
Managers Chris Rosevear and Kev James can be pleased with an improved season and the emergence of some young talent amongst the squad. The league hasn’t yet finished but the lads can be sure of at least 5th place out of 14 and possible promotion to Div 2 next season.
